The Boundary Rider's Report December 2022

The Boundary Rider’s Report December 2022

Thank you for taking the time to check out our Christmas Edition of The Boundary Rider’s Report.

Season: It has dried out with westerly winds and cold days. So far this year we have received 1048mm.

Rainfall Charts: Once again we have printed rainfall charts and have them available for pick up at Guyra rural merchants. If you would like to receive one in the post, please contact us and we will send one to you. Please email kirstywhite@baldblair.com.au with your postal details.

Visitors: We really enjoyed hosting the Angus Society Team for staff training on Friday, 2nd December. It was a cold, windy and misty afternoon and we all rugged up to check out a yard of bulls and discuss all things angus. Thank you to all the team at Angus Australia for answering our calls on DNA, registrations, advertising and more. We very much appreciate the service you provide.

Team: Welcome to the team Ben Lennon our new stockman. Ben has been with us for a couple of months now and has fitted into our team exceptionally well.

Carbon: Sam attended a field day at Tenterden Station for the MLA/Precision Pastures project “Grazing System Impact on Livestock Productivity, Soil Moisture and Soil Organic Matter”. We are involved with this project along with a number of other producers in the Northern Tablelands. This project started in 2020 and runs until 2025.

Calf Marking The stud calves have been marked. For the first time we had to run them through the race and use the crush - with the addition of a few tyres to make the space right for them. We were able to weigh the calves, give them their new management tag, NLIS tag, take a Tissue Sample (TSU), drench and vaccination. Their mothers also looked well and the coversires are out working with them at the moment, these bulls are due out just before Christmas. We have our main mob of stud cows under rotation at Bald Blair and this is working well. It has taken some time to be comfortable doing this, the use of Parent Verification has helped, as has changes to fencing here at Bald Blair.

Low Stress Stock Handling School

See details here https://www.lss.net.au/dates.htm

We are hosting a low stress stock handling school with Chook Kealey on Monday 27th and Tuesday 28th. We already have a number of people booked in, so places are limited. If you are keen to attend please register asap. At our last school we focused on our team and also school aged students and will do this again.

Podcast - The Data Breeder: Our podcast is still available to download. We plan to make some more recordings in 2023. If you have any suggestions, please let us know. https://www.baldblairangus.com.au/podcast-the-data-breeder

Commercial Semen Available: We have also collected semen from a number of our leading bulls for our own commercial heifer AI program and to provide to clients. Please check out our Semen Sales page on our website https://www.baldblairangus.com.au/semen-sales and if you are interested in ordering semen please fill in the form and give us a call so we can assist you with your breeding program.

Bald Blair Merch: Bald Blair Angus Trucking caps, hand towels & enamel mugs- check out our website store if you would like to order one.  https://www.baldblairangus.com.au/store

Kelly’s Cottage: We have cut back trees around Kelly’s Cottage that were starting to fall into the garden and possibly on the cottage. We now have a much safer environment to host guests. Kelly’s Cottage will be open again for accommodation soon - so please check out our listing on Airbnb for availability or contact us directly. We are in the process of upgrading our website to manage our own bookings and we will let you know when that is available.

Both Kirsty & I would like to acknowledge all those people who have supported us this year. We wish you all a special time with family and friends over the Christmas and New Year period.
